Weather Codes

You'll notice that our First Alert Weather Team is sending out updates regarding what "code" our weather status is. Some of us know what these codes mean, others are probably wondering what the heck?.

So, the next time you see a "code" email, here is what they means:

Code Green: Fair Weather...another beautiful day.

Code Blue: Precipitation OR Non-Precipitation with Active Weather Alerts
(Red Flag Warnings, Wind Advisory, Unhealthy Air Quality, Heat Above 110)

Code Yellow: Precipitation Event with Active Weather Alerts
(Dense fog, Thunderstorms, Code Orange or Red expected in the next 18 hours.)

Code Orange: Severe Weather Event
(Severe Thunderstorms, Hail, Flooding occurring or imminent, 40mph+ Winds, Snowfall on valley floor.)

Code Red: Imminent Threat to Life/Property
(Tornado, Damaging Severe Thunderstorms, Severe Thunderstorms, Severe Winter Storm conditions on the valley floor.)

Each "code" begins a series of internal events pertaining to how we cover severe weather, who is responsible for coverage, and how weather is covered in our broadcast. For more information, feel free to email cdoyle@krcrtv.com for a copy of our Severe Weather Action Plan.
